Although we live in the digital era, where finding people with similar thoughts or interests should be easy, the reality is quite different. It’s not as simple as it seems.
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on how challenging it is to connect with people who genuinely understand my worldview. It’s not just about meeting people—it’s about finding those who truly get me on a deeper level.
Honestly, it’s been a long time since what inspires me most are students and everyday people who, with the intention of sharing, create practical tools from simple materials to benefit others (through DIY projects). That kind of creativity motivates me to do the same.
For me, making useful inventions is about leaving a legacy—something meaningful that will outlast my time in this world. I love the idea of creating affordable alternatives to factory-made products that can genuinely help people break free from consumerism. However, to make those inventions a reality, I can’t do it alone. A great team is essential.
Unfortunately, it’s been difficult to find people who share my mindset, especially where I live. :(
So, what can I do? Fortunately, I’ve come up with some tips that might help! If you’ve faced similar challenges, read on for practical advice.
1. Join Niche Online Communities
Look for online forums, social media groups, or Discord servers focused on your specific interests. Platforms like Reddit, Meetup, or Facebook groups offer spaces where people discuss everything from DIY inventions to social impact projects. Engage actively and share your thoughts to attract like-minded people.
2. Attend Workshops and Events
Look for workshops, hackathons, and community events related to your passions, whether in innovation, sustainability, or design. These events are a great way to meet people who are equally curious and proactive in creating solutions.
3. Collaborate on Projects and Open-Source Platforms
Platforms like GitHub (for coding projects) or Instructables (for DIY projects) allow you to collaborate with others remotely. Join or start projects that align with your ideas, and you’ll naturally connect with people who think similarly.
4. Start Conversations with Curiosity
When talking to new people, try opening conversations about your ideas and see how they respond. Sometimes, like-minded individuals are closer than we realize, and a meaningful discussion can uncover shared interests.
5. Be Patient and Authentic
Finding your tribe takes time. Be patient and stay true to your values. Not everyone will share your vision, but the ones who do will make the wait worthwhile. Building meaningful connections is more about quality than quantity.
I know that finding people who understand our way of thinking is hard. However, that doesn’t mean we should feel discouraged. There’s always a way to connect with those people and bring our dreams to life. ✨
