Have a blessed Tuesday!

Last night, I re-watched an old sci-fi movie that was released back in 2007. The first time I watched this movie was when I was a kid, and an Indonesian TV channel, TransTv, often played some of the best movies, coloring my childhood.

The title of the movie is The Mist, based on the novel of the same title by Stephen King, a renowned author known for his popular novels.

The Mist basically tells the story of a city struck by a thick mist, from which mysterious creatures emerge, attacking and killing humans. The main character is a man with his son, who are trapped in a supermarket and look for the best way to survive. Finally, the ending is super twisted. You should watch it so you can be as sad as me. 😅

Regardless of the story and the ending, this movie has a lot of moral messages that are valuable for our self-improvement as human beings. So, I won’t spoil the movie plot; I just want to share the moral messages as a reminder. Let’s buckle up!

The Mist Movie

Sure, here are explanations for each moral message of The Mist movie!

1. Unity to survive together

In the face of an unprecedented and terrifying threat, the characters in The Mist should work together to survive. Unity becomes crucial as they band together to share resources, protect each other, and devise strategies for survival. The movie illustrates that in times of crisis, collaboration and collective effort are essential for overcoming challenges and ensuring the well-being of everyone involved.

2. Don’t sacrifice others for self-benefits

The film portrays the dangers of selfishness and the ethical consequences of sacrificing others to save oneself. Characters who act out of self-interest and disregard the lives of others ultimately face moral and sometimes physical repercussions. This message underscores the importance of valuing human life and making ethical decisions, even in dire situations.

3. Think clearly to find the way out

In high-stress situations, panic and fear can cloud judgment, leading to poor decision-making. The Mist emphasizes the importance of maintaining a clear mind and rational thinking to find solutions and escape danger. Characters who remain calm and think strategically are more likely to survive and make effective decisions that benefit the group.

4. Be patient

The movie highlights the virtue of patience in the face of uncertainty and fear. Impulsive actions driven by panic can lead to disastrous outcomes, while patience allows for better assessment of the situation and more thoughtful responses. Characters who exhibit patience are better equipped to handle the prolonged crisis and make decisions that enhance their chances of survival.

5. Don’t be desperate

Desperation can drive people to take extreme and often irrational actions. The Mist demonstrates that succumbing to desperation can lead to tragic consequences, both for individuals and the group. Maintaining hope and composure, even in the bleakest moments, is crucial for making sound decisions and preserving one’s humanity amidst chaos.

The ending of the movie, where the main character chooses to shoot the people including his son instead of being patient and waiting for help, is very dramatic. It reminds us that even in the darkest times, there is always help. We should just be patient, so we never say,"if only" and regret. :")

So, if by chance, you watched this movie, how would you rate it? For me, I’d give it 8.5 out of 10. I love the story and the moral messages within. It’s really heartfelt.
