Happy Clancy Day!
Finally, Twenty One Pilots released their newest album, Clancy, on May 24th. This album feels like a flashback to the era of Regional at Best and Vessel which is intriguing.
I won't review all the tracks one by one because tonight, I'd like to review my top three songs from this album based on my personal thoughts. These songs are so relatable to me. Okay, let's go!
1. Navigating
Since the first time I listened to this song, I knew it would be my favorite from the album. I don't know why, but this song really resonates with what I think about almost every night.
Overall, the lyrics of "Navigating" explore themes of feeling lost, disconnected, and uncertain in the face of change and loss. The song delves into the struggle of trying to navigate through life's challenges while grappling with inner turmoil and external pressures.
Pardon my delay
I'm navigating, I'm navigating my head
Disassociate
I'm navigating, I'm navigating my head
Give me some advice (Give me some advice)
I am wasting all this time (Wasting)
My, oh my
Don't know how long it's been
Since I responded to your question
If you really want to know what I'm thinking
Kind of feels like everybody leaves
Feeling the reality that everybody leaves
My dad just lost his mom, I think that everybody leaves
And now I'm trying to hold onto you 'cause everybody leaves
This song describes a little about me, where I feel that most people around me live practically and do everything spontaneously without thinking too much. It's very different for me. That's why in every conversation, I often get lost because my thoughts about this life I'm living in are too complex.
Furthermore, the older I get, the more I know the feeling of loss. Since 2016, I've lost many people I knew. The phrase "now I'm trying to hold onto You" I personally refer to God. He is the one I rely on because I know relying on people isn't eternal since they will leave me one by one.
2. At The Risk of Feeling Dumb
The lyrics of "At The Risk of Feeling Dumb" reflect on the complexities of friendship, mental health, and the importance of checking in on one another. It emphasizes the reluctance some individuals may feel in reaching out for help, even when they are struggling with their lowest moments.
The lyrics advocate for the significance of staying connected with friends, even when they seem distant or resistant to assistance. It touches upon themes of vulnerability, support, and the potential consequences of neglecting to check in on those we care about.
So please, keep it in mind
Check on your friends
Every once in a while
Even if they say
I don't want anyone, know me or not
See me at my lowest, you don't have to drop, drop, drop
Don't have to drop by
Nothing you can do this time
Do you ever want someone you can share with without having to hide your vulnerability and always show your independence as a human, although you don't want to burden them with it? I personally do.
It's what I feel about this song. It feels like you don't want anyone to know your lowest times (vulnerability). That's why you try to show your strength and independence so they know you're okay no matter how many drawbacks you have behind. Yet you really need genuine ears to listen without judging you. :)
3. Paladin Strait
The lyrics of "Paladin Strait" capture a sense of determination and perseverance in the face of challenges, particularly in the pursuit of a connection with someone significant. The song explores themes of resilience, commitment, and the willingness to overcome obstacles, even when the odds seem stacked against you.
It conveys a sense of urgency and longing as the protagonist navigates through turbulent waters, both literal and metaphorical, to reach their destination.
I can't be alone
Guess I never told you so
Making my way towards you
Tracing out a line
A route I've mapped a thousand times
Making my way towards you
I would swim the Paladin Strait
Without any floatation
Just a glimpse of visual aid
Of you on the other shoreline
Waiting, expectations that I'm gonna make it
For me, this song describes how we as humans want to pursue what we dream of. It can be anything. No matter how many obstacles, you still want to pursue because you assure yourself that you can make it in the end. 🤍
That's all for my honest review based on what I'm thinking and experiencing. For Clancy, I'll give it 8 out of 10 because some tracks are heart-touching. 🥺
To wrap up, there are many theories that there's a double album since there's a phrase "Hello Clancy" in the last track "Paladin Strait." After all, let's wait for the MV for this track. Thank you for reading this review; it really means a lot to me.
